Lace up your sneakers and get ready to Run/Walk for Refugee Kids! The weekend of September 11 – 13, run or walk a 5K (3.1 miles) whenever and wherever you want – road or trail, your neighborhood or a fun destination, even your treadmill at home! Proceeds support the educational, developmental and practical needs of refugee kids across Chicagoland.

Why Refugee Kids?

Refugee kids are incredibly resilient. But they face tremendous challenges, including trying to navigate an unfamiliar school system while learning English. COVID-19 creates yet another hurdle, as technology and language barriers have made learning extra difficult during this pandemic.

Your Impact!

Fundraise for your run/walk and you’ll provide refugee kids with one-on-one academic support by trained Exodus mentors. You’ll give a refugee child just the boost he or she needs to keep learning in school—a gift that can have a life-long impact!

How It Works

1. Sign Up

Sign up as an individual or team. Registration is $40, and free for kids 10 and under.

2. Get Support

It’s easy to set up a fundraising page when you register! Get your family and friends to support your run/walk.

3. Get Gear

We’ll mail you a race bib and t-shirt to wear when you run/walk during September 11 - 13. Post pics with #RefugeeKids5K.

FAQ

Who is Exodus World Service?

Exodus World Service mobilizes the Christian community to welcome and befriend refugees. For more than 30 years, Exodus has connected volunteers with refugee families to welcome them, visit them, to help them practice English, prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam and provide one-on-one academic mentoring to refugee kids.

Why refugee kids?

Refugee youth are disproportionately affected by the impacts of COVID-19. For instance, technology and language barriers have made learning extra difficult during this pandemic.

Fundraise for your run/walk and you’ll provide refugee kids across Chicagoland with one-on-one academic support by trained Exodus mentors. You’ll give a refugee child just the boost he or she needs to keep learning and growing in their educationa life-long impact!

What is a virtual race?

The Run/Walk for Refugee Kids is a virtual 5K, which means you can walk or run 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) anywhere: trail, road or treadmill, close to home or at a fun destination. Run on your own, with your family or friends (at a safe social distance).

How much does it cost to participate?

Registration is $40 for everyone age 11 and up. Kids age 10 and under are free! Proceeds support the educational, developmental and practical needs of refugee kids across Chicagoland.

Is there a deadline to register?

Register by August 27 and we’ll mail you a Run/Walk for Refugee Kids race shirt and bib prior to the event. Registrations received after August 27 will still receive a shirt and bib; however, we can’t guarantee delivery in time for the event.

What will I receive with my registration?

We will mail you a Run/Walk for Refugee Kids race shirt and bib. Be sure to snap a photo of yourself wearing them! Share it on social media with the hashtag #RefugeeKids5K.

Is this a family-friendly event?

It sure is! Walk or run with your kids, your grandparents—everyone! Register your whole family—each registrant will receive a bib and race shirt.

Do I participate by myself or with others? Can I create a team?

Yes, we encourage you to create a team to run/walk with and to raise support for refugee kids! Your team could be your family, your quarantine bubble, your small group, your co-workers or others. You don’t all have to physically run/walk together to create a team. Simply encourage one another and spur each other on, both in finishing the 5K and in fundraising.

We encourage teams to set a fundraising goal and work together toward this goal! Each individual will still have their own fundraising page. However, working together to meet a team goal can make fundraising easier and more fun.

I can’t make it the weekend of September 11-13. Can I still participate?

Absolutely. You can still be a part of the Run/Walk for Refugee Kids by completing your 5K walk or run anytime during the month of September. Pick a day that works with your schedule and have fun.

I am unable to walk or run. Can I still be a part of helping refugee kids?

Yes! Your gift today will help refugee kids with their education. Your generosity connects refugee youth with trained Exodus mentors who provide one-on-one academic support, helping refugee kids keep growing and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Give now.
