Show Hospitality to a Refugee Family

After fleeing persecution and war in their homeland, refugees approved for resettlement arrive in the U.S. having left nearly everything behind. As they start their lives over, one of their most basic needs is help setting up a new home.

Through the Welcome Pack program, you can provide a warm welcome for one of these courageous individuals or families when they arrive in our community. You can turn an empty apartment into a home by collecting and delivering all of the basic household items needed for the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen in addition to a first month's supply of food staples. You will meet a refugee individual or family on the day they arrive, often with only a few possessions, and personally welcome them with the essential supplies they need.

But the welcome doesn’t stop there. These courageous individuals and families continue to have needs beyond their initial three months of their resettlement assistance. You can encourage them by providing a Care Pack: an assortment of needed household items with a personal visit that shows love and hospitality to our refugee neighbors.

Exodus supports Welcome Pack and Care Pack volunteers with:

  • Step-by-step handbook
  • List of items for Welcome Pack Checklist and Care Pack Checklist
  • Online group sign-up tool
  • Introduction to a refugee individual or family that needs your help
  • Ongoing support including answers to questions, speakers for group events and promotional materials

These opportunities are great for families, small groups, youth programs and entire church congregations.

“In refugee ministry, the mission field comes to us, and everyone involved benefits from the stretching involved in engaging in each others’ culture.”
